All of the wood pipes sold at Next Bardo Online Head Shop are made from domestic or exotic hardwoods (often both).

A species that is native to North America is considered a domestic wood.

A species that is not native to North America is considered an exotic wood.

Examples of common domestic hardwoods are: Oak, Maple & Birch.

Examples of exotic hardwoods would include: Mahogany, Wenge & Cocobolo.

Indeed there are some that would fall into both categories such as Cypress and Walnut, ,but lets not over-complicate things (:

There are approx. two dozen different hardwoods used to create the wooden smoking pipes we sell at nextbardo.com. There are far more species that exist on earth, but most of the manufacturers tend to use the same grouping of wood species because they are the best suited woods for use as smoking pipes.

Because so many woods are incorporated into the production of these pipes and because each piece of wood has an esthetic that can vary (even within a single species) it means that each pipe is totally unique and literally one-of-a-kind. Yes, that's really cool, but there is one down-side; it means that literally every pipe will look different to some extent. Sometimes the difference is hardly noticeable and other times it is quite obvious, particularly if we are talking about two completely different species of wood being utilized for the same exact style of pipe.

I've added multiple images to each product listing that should cover the scope or variance of all the woods used to make each individual style/model of pipe, that said, (unless a specific wood species is listed with a product) we cannot guarantee a particular species or finish on any pipe. Please take that into account when you order.

👉 If you have a preference between a lighter or darker finish or if you see a particular pipe in the images that is made from a wood that you like more than the others, I highly encourage you to leave a note for us. You can leave notes on the product page if available (most applicable product pages have a "notes" area). If you do not see a place to leave notes on the product page then you can leave a note during the checkout process.

We will ALWAYS do our best too accommodate any request. If you express a preference to us, we will get you the closest possible match, but we cannot guarantee a specific wood.

The only exception is if the product listing specifies a particular species of wood. For instance, almost all of the Dugouts we carry are species specific as are some of the Zeppelin pipes, SAT's, etc.

I very rarely hear from customers who are unhappy with the pipe they received, but occasionally it does happen;  someone is hoping for a light finish and they receive a dark finish. In the rare event that that happens; DO NOT USE THE PIPE, we have a very easy and very quick return & exchange process. If you have any issue at all with your purchase, contact us and we will remedy the situation asap.
